On Sunday, June 29th the South Park Community came together for a momentous celebration: the opening of the new South Park Bridge, complete with fireworks, a street fair, a parade, and speaches by local dignitaries including Senator Patty Murray and Representative Jim McDermott.

Early in the day, SPBA float received final touches of floral arrangements by parade participant Becky Smart.

Among the speakers was Representative Jim McDermott, who talked about some of the challenges of funding the new bridge project.

Senator Murray, one of the early and most active champions of the bridge replacement project, joined the celebration to acknowledge the enthusiasm and support of business, labor, community groups and public entities.

SPBA and the South Park Neighborhood Association


SPBA president Ron Cook reviewed the business community's participation in the project, then looked on as Dagmar Cronn, past president of the South Park Neighorhood Association, thanked the South Park residents for their support.
